I purchased the first version of this gate lock about 5 years ago and it finally broke (the metal cable rusted out and cover for the combination lock broke). This newer version, I notice some improvements. There is no longer a need for the spring (the latch mechanism is smoother and it does not ship with a spring) and the combination lock cover is metal and it slides up and down (major improvement over the plastic cover from the previous version). The screws are also thicker (which makes the lock feel more securely mounted). Installation is simple and can be done well within an hour. Just follow the instructions.
